Curious about the best and worst mileage out there? Wondering what a Hummer actually gets, anyway? Well, numbers are readily available for everything, ironically, except the Hummer and other very large SUV's. Turns out that vehicles over 8,500 pounds are exempt from reporting fuel efficiency, so naturally, the manufacturers don't. So the Hummer numbers below are not official, but are the generally agreed-upon numbers in a
web search of "hummer gas mileage", two of which are
CBS News and the Siera Club (
here and
here).
All other numbers are from
www.fueleconomy.gov, a US government-sponsored site (Department of Energy and EPA) providing comparison of cars and trucks in terms of gas mileage, greenhouse gas and other air pollution, and safety information, along with general information on gas prices, fuel economy tips, and how various alternative technologies work. Numbers are given as city followed by highway MPG, except for Hummers, where only a range is available.
